Stop Lying...

Most transitions in your life begin following a series of losses, loss of a person, relationship, health, career, etc. Transitions can be hard because they can shake your identity.  Additionally, they tend to require you to give up something you may be holding on to, to make room for something new and different.

Some of you say you want to move forward, yet the reality is that you are unwilling to give up the “thing” that often has held you captive. You rationalize by saying things like:

  • “I’ve got plenty of time.”

  • “It can wait.”

So, we’re in unison, let’s define:

  • Transition: (noun) “The process of changing from one state or condition to another. A period during which something changes from one state or stage to another.”

  • Reinvention: (verb) “To remake or redo completely to bring into use again.

When asked, most people will eventually admit that they knew, deeply within, that changes were needed, long before they acted.

A few excuses for ot doing the work it takes to move forward include:

  • Fear of making a mistake

  • Procrastination

  • Fear of the unknown

  • Lack of vision

  • Overwhelm

  • Confusion

Choosing to be honest with yourself is the first step toward clarity:

Acknowledge your reason(s) for not moving forward.

Articulate the word that best describes your feelings around this.

Ask yourself why you feel the way you do.

Determine what you can do to change the way you feel.

Create a mental picture of what it is, specifically that you want to change.

After you’ve completed the above, if you’re still unable to move forward identify what you can do to get more clarity and strategies in the quickest amount of time so you can reinvent and move forward:

  • research on the internet

  • schedule an exploratory call with a therapist or leadership reinvention strategist

May your vision become clear and your steps strategic.
