Do You Go Hard in the Paint?

Are you a sports fan? I like sports, yet I wouldn’t define myself as a “fan.”

Despite that, I do know the meaning of “going hard in the paint” pertains to giving one’s full effort. Those who know me understand my core values include giving full effort to making my goals a reality. For me, this is an integral part of growing forward.

In basketball, when a player positions themself in the paint, they’re in the free throw lane. They focus with intent to execute what they’ve trained to do.

My question for you is, how are you positioning yourself? It’s the fourth quarter of 2022.

Assuming you set annual goals, you have one month to do what you set out to achieve in 2022.

Ohhhh, hold up!! You did have goals for this year, right?

Everyone tends to have thoughts of what you want to do. They come in all sizes, shapes and forms. Achieving your goals tends to increase happiness and well-being.

Step one

►Decide what you want to achieve. It's important for you to believe there's no limit. It can be large or small.

►Determine why you have the goal(s) you do. What motivates you to want this?

►What does achieving this mean to you?

►What will it look like?

►How will achieving it make you feel?

Step two

This is when you get quiet and sit with pen and paper...or table or laptop, whatever you prefer. When visualizing your future, what is ideal?

Step three

Drill down, be finite. Get extremely specific about what's important to you, so much so that you want it in your future.

Now, back to my opening statement... Will you "Go Hard in the Paint?" To make your vision, your dreams a reality, how willing are you to be SMART about it?

Specific- what's the first step?

Measurable - what quantifiable measure of success can you create?

(Example = I'll go to the gym three days each week.)

Achievable - Is it possible to take the first step?

Reasonable -How reasonable is what you're saying able to be done?

Time Bound - when will you take the first step?

Your thoughts can become your words and your words become your actions. Your actions become evidence of your reality.

When you think of your future with this perspective, do you understand why “going hard in the paint is ideal?”

Remember, it’s the beginning of the fourth quarter. Don’t wait. Become intentional today.
